UV OIL
Our UV oil brings out the best in natural timber, enhancing tone, texture, and grain with a soft, matte appearance that looks and feels authentic. The result is a low-sheen, almost velvet-like surface that’s warm underfoot and rich in detail, without artificial gloss or build-up.
The beauty of our UV oil lies in how it lets the timber speak for itself. Colour variation, grain movement, and natural character remain visible and feel close to the surface, rather than buried under heavy coating. It creates a more organic, lived-in feel from day one.
While UV oils aren’t quite as robust against stains and spills as lacquer finishes, they’re easy to refresh and maintain. With proper care, they’ll stand the test of time.
About the Surface
Light Smoked
Light smoking gently shifts the raw tone of oak, adding a hint of warmth and softening high contrasts without losing clarity. It’s a subtle transformation that enriches the timber without overpowering it. Tonal variation will occur naturally through the smoking process and is shaped further by the chosen grade and finish, giving each floor a lived-in, effortless elegance.
Sanded (No Brushing)
This surface has been sanded smooth with no brushing, resulting in a clean, uniform finish. It keeps the grain visible but soft, offering a more minimal texture where colour and clarity take the lead.
Grading explained
Grading is one of the biggest factors in the overall look of a floor, and one of the easiest places for quality to slip.
At Frevini, we carry out our grading with tight tolerances and clear criteria. Especially in our Select and Nature grades, we’re far stricter than industry norms, meaning fewer surprises on site and a more consistent, reliable outcome for your project.
We offer three grading options across our standard ranges:
- Select: A clean grade with consistent tone, tight grain, and only the occasional small knot (up to 10mm). No sapwood.
- Nature: A mostly clean appearance with just enough movement to keep it interesting. Expect moderate knots (up to 25mm), visible grain, and tonal variation, but no sapwood. Well-balanced and versatile.
- Character: Often referred to as Feature grade. The most expressive. Larger knots (up to 60mm), heavier grain, visible sapwood (up to 30%). Full of natural contrast and detail.
Super Select is also available in certain profiles and sizes, on request.
